A time to feel at home in yourself.

My background as a dance/movement therapist is a cornerstone of my approach.

What is Dance/Movement Therapy?

Dance/movement therapy (DMT) is a form of creative arts therapy that embraces the power of the body, creativity, and nonverbal expression.

Rooted in the understanding that the mind and body are deeply connected, dance/movement therapy aims to foster the holistic integration of the individual across social, emotional, cognitive, spiritual, and physical dimensions.

At its core, dance/movement therapy operates on several key principles:

  1. Nonverbal expression is just as significant as verbal communication.

  2. Creativity can serve as a vehicle for growth and healing.

  3. Understanding your own body and nervous system can be empowering and deeply healing.

  4. Movement serves as a metaphor for our thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships.

  5. Movement is functional, communicative, adaptive, developmental, and expressive.

Through movement and creative exploration, individuals can tap into their innate wisdom, cultivate self-awareness, and embark on a journey of healing and growth.

But do I have to dance?

This is a question I am frequently asked. I’m delighted to say, the answer is no. At its core, dance/movement therapy is about having the permission and the space to feel at home in your body. A time to rekindle the relationship between your thinking self, your feeling self and your “being” self.

This can look different for different people. Sometimes it can be through movement and dance. Some find this place of connection through verbal reflection as they bring more awareness to the relationship between these different parts. My role as a dance therapist is to guide you in this process. I will offer ideas to help you create a nurturing space for exploration and expression as you walk this path to self-discovery.
